This term in Pavilion Class...

For the start of this new term, in Rhino Class our topic will be World War Two, learning about the timeline of events such as the outbreak of the war, the Battle of Britain, the heroic rescue at Dunkirk, the Blitz, the D-Day landings, the liberation of the concentration camps and the celebrations of VE Day.

In Maths, we begin the Spring term learning about fractions, decimals and percentages. Similar to our previous term, we will still have a key focus on the four key operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

In Literacy, we will be focussing on making sure our writing is accurate and coherent with a particular focus on a number of punctuation marks including commas, brackets and dashes. To build up our skills in this area, we will use a variety of tasks such as diary entries, letter writing and persuasive speeches. We will also begin this term by improving our grammar skills by learning about the accurate use of dashes, hyphens and inverted commas.

In Science, we will learn about electricity, where we will be building circuits and comparing or giving reasons for variations in how components function, including the brightness of bulbs, the loudness of buzzers and the on/off position of switches. In PSHE, our topic is called ‘Dreams and Goals where the children will learn skills about how they can work out the learning steps they need to take in order to reach a goal and understand how to motivate themselves to achieve these.

In P.E, we will be improving our skills in cricket and badminton.

Useful Information:

· P.E. is on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Please make sure your child comes to school in their P.E. kits on these days.

· Home learning tasks will routinely be given out on Fridays and handed back in on the following Friday.

· It would also be helpful if your child could practise their reading and times tables skills at home for 15 minutes each day. This could involve listening to your child read a book, asking them to summarise a section or simply asking them to recite their times tables. Times tables practise can also be done online for free using this website: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10 It's vital that the children build up their arithmetic and reading fluency ahead of their SATs examinations in May 2024.

Thank you for your support.
