This term in Nursery...
A big welcome to everyone who is joining our Nursery this term and a big welcome back to those rejoining us for their final year in Nursery before starting school!
We begin our Autumn Term with a whole school 'Learning to Learn' two weeks where we will introduce the children to our learning characters and settle the children into Nursery. After this, our first exciting learning journey is ‘All About Me'. This will focus around two lovely books - 'All Kinds of People' and 'Handa’s Surprise'. The children will begin to think and learn about what makes them special and unique, and we will be encouraging them to talk about what they look like and sharing ideas about favourite foods, toys and colours. The children will begin to understand how we are all different... and that this is ok! We will begin to learn about the different emotions and how they make us feel. We will be asking questions such as: What special times do you celebrate in your family? What makes you happy, sad, scared and excited? We will be learning about our new friends and adults, and exploring the Nursery environment, inside and outside. The children will also be taking part in Harvest Festival, Bonfire Night and Divali celebrations, and learning about the colourful season of autumn.
Children who will be starting school in September 2024 will begin daily phonics sessions from Week 3. We follow a scheme of work called ‘Litte Wandle’. More information about this will follow shortly.
