Year 3, 4 & 5 - Cat Class

This term in Cat Class...

We are now starting our Summer 1 learning through our over-arching topic: ‘ A Walk Back In Time.’ This is mainly in reference to the history learning connected to the Norman era and the core text in English, Varjak Paw.

We have another action-packed and exciting half term. Please refer to the topic grid to read the exciting learning that lies ahead!

I would just like to take this opportunity to raise a few matters which are important for Cat Class:

•  Our PE slot is on Friday, so on PE days children must come to school wearing their PE kit in school. Weekly reminder texts are sent to help communicate when PE kits are needed.
• Home-learning is also an important part of learning for children and I will provide paper copies. Home-learning is typically given out on Thursday and is to be returned by the following Wednesday.
• If possible, we also ask that you listen to your child read for 15-20 minutes 3 times a week. This is crucial for improving their fluency and stamina, as well as giving them the chance to extend the range of authors and genres. We have a well-stocked library with a wide range of modern, popular and high-quality books which children can take home to read. On the Cat Class web-page there is a document with focused VIPERS reading skills questions, which you may wish to ask your child while they read.

I do appreciate that we are likely to learn things in different ways to when you were at school; please always feel free to come and ask me about any approaches or methods you are unfamiliar with. I am happy to discuss them with you and advise you on how you might best support your child to ensure they achieve their potential.
