This term in Yellow Class...
For our Autumn 2 topic, we will embark on another new learning journey; ‘Treasure Island’. Here we will be focussing on local and world geography through the exploration Pirates and Piracy through the years. We will also be debating the ethical and moral dilemmas of Piracy!
Our Stunning Start for the topic will be to a dress up as a Pirate for the day (Friday 8th November 2019) and create our own Pirate names. Year 1 and 2 will also come together for a special Pirate storytelling time! Our Marvellous Middle will be to create a Pirate portrait of ourselves, with our Fantastic Finish ending the topic through a Year 1 and 2 Pirate Training Day (Wednesday 18th December). This will involve a carousel of activities throughout the school in order to achieve true Pirate status!
In Literacy, our key text will be ‘Zeraffa Girrafa’ by Dianne Hofmeyr, which explores the true story of a Giraffes journey across the world! Exploration of our key text will support letter writing, character descriptions and creative story writing skills. We will also be debating the issue of removing wild animals from their natural habitats, making links to our previous knowledge relating to animals from the African Savannah during Autumn 1.
During our ‘Maths No Problem’ lessons we will be continuing to explore the topic of ‘Addition and Subtraction’ before moving onto ‘Multiplication and Division’, which includes knowledge the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We will be using our knowledge to also create and solve problems and devise our own equations from questions posed.
In Computing we will be continuing our ‘Specialist Unit’ which is designed to teach the discrete learning goals of ICT and Computing, allowing children to start working with tools such as text, images, sound, graphs and videos.
In P.E we will be continuing to practise our attacking, defending and shooting skills, as well as to take part in weekly Badminton lessons provided by the outside agency ‘Racket Pack’.
In PSHE we will celebrate anti-bullying week (wb. Monday 11th November) by identifying what bullying is and how to deal with it. We will also explore the topic of healthy eating and how to take care of ourselves, as well as to decide what makes a good friend, including active listening, respecting differences and peaceful problem solving.
On a Tuesday with Miss. Ransley, she will continue to explore Christian and Muslim signs, symbols and traditional artefacts with the children. They will also explore the story of Christmas and traditional Christian customs. During Spanish, she will help the children to develop their understanding and speaking skills through songs, rhymes and talk partner practice. In Music, she will be using the programme Charanga to help us repeat and create rhythms and beats, in addition to learning and rehearsing songs for our Christmas performance.
