This term in Red Class...
For our final half term in Red Class we will be exploring the topic ‘Down by the Seaside’. We will explore what the children already know about living near the seaside, discuss their previous experiences of going to a beach either in this country or another and take part in our very own Red Class beach day! Our key text will be ‘The Rainbow Fish’ by Marcus Pfister and we will learn to re-tell and sequence events from the story, practise our Talk for Writing story language and actions, look closely at who the characters are and where the story settings take place and think carefully about the messages the story gives us about sharing and being happy with our friends.
We will centre all our learning around the topic of the seaside, for example, we will use beach items such as shells and pebbles to help us with our 1:1 counting, addition and subtraction in Maths, explore non-fiction books and learn new information about different sea creatures, use our Creative Caterpillar brains to think of and write adjectives to describe our favourite sea creature, make our very own Rainbow Fish out of coffee filter paper, felt tips and water spray bottles…and much, much more!
For our final class trip and Fantastic Finish to the topic we will take a walk down to Hove lagoon beach…where we will sketch beach huts, visit the fish mongers, go on a scavenger hunt to see what we can collect and create lots of lovely beach art!
