This term in Red Class...
Spring 1: Happy new year everybody! This half term in Red Class we will be exploring the topic of ‘People who help us’. We will discuss what the children already know about people who help us, both inside and outside of school. Our key story focus will be ‘Emergency!’ by Margaret Mayo and we will look at many non-fiction texts about jobs people do. Our stunning start to the topic will be to have ‘mini interview’ time with adults around the school, to find out exactly how they help us in different ways!
We will centre all our learning around the topic of people who help us, for example, we will sketch and paint our favourite emergency vehicles, explore our mathematical knowledge of weight by weighing toy babies in our classroom Doctor’s Surgery, practise our number formation and ordering of numbers…with a look at why we ring the number 999, read and write about our favourite professions (and think about what we want to be when we grow up!), explore the inside of a paramedic ambulance, police car and fire engine right here in our school playground (our marvellous middles!) and much, much more! Please see our topic grid for more details.
We will also be holding a ‘Chinese New Year’ celebration week the week beginning 4th February. This year it will be the ‘Year of the Pig’!
